Runs a lingerie and sex toy shop at 4 rue de Grenelle, round the corner from her main boutiques in the boulvard Saint Germain.

I'm so sorry I can't tell you more about it but ,for the purposes of this review I've, as yet, been too pudique* to go in there.

I actually once ventured into this tiny, terrifying boutique on the rue (just around the corner from Sonia Rykiel.Fresh from my pudeur experience I probably wasn't feeling at my most daring). This place is scary for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's about the dimensions of a good-sized  French armoire/wardrobe. Pressed cosily against the tiny saleslady, I ask whether she has any of the jewel-hued silk slips in my size. She explains that they only display size medium and your choice of model and colour will be made up for you. Ok, so far, so old school. But the problem is that I can't see the styles. They're all compressed together on the floor-to-ceiling rails and all I can see is a slim slice of each chemise like that cute design thing they do at the edges of the pages of Paris Vogue. Am I going to ask the price of any? (there are no price labels, ndlr*). I do. They're 400 Euros. What about the crise? Are there any on sale? Mais non. That would be a step too far. I exit, shamefacedly. Remember.I'm doing this for you people...

OK. This is all a bit tamer. Laurence Tavernier in the rue de Pré aux Clercs sells luxury pyjamas a little on the conservative side: something to give to your sugar daddy for Saint Valentin. For nightwear that’s, if possible, even more gorgeous, you should visit Bluet at the other end of the street for very high-end handmade nightwear in Liberty print, fine linen and brushed cotton. The children's section is particularly cute.

Princesse Tam Tam

The affordable face of ravishing Paris lingerie. Lovely attention to detail, given the reasonable prices. You’ll be able to pretend you’re Marie Antoinette and have some cash to spare for rosepetal Valentines cocktails at the Hotel de Sers. They’re known for their signature retro-bright prints on silk. Great swimwear in the summer.

Etam and Darjeeling

Everyone raves about Etam lingerie. I think that's in comparison to budget teen fashion chains Etam used to run in other countries (like the UK). OK, Etam is attractively priced and, OK,  some of the stock prompts you to exclaim, "Oh! I never throught I'd find something like this in Etam." but this is the home of the solid foam 'bonnet'* bra. Why do people wear those things? There's a comments box underneath here. Just tell me.

 

Darjeeling underwear is pretty similar but has good, delicate nightwear.

...stock cute, cotton and microfibre lingerie in their boutiques. Trouble is, they only stock a small display in each shop and I've been known to buy a bra in one branch only to chase the matching knickers in their stores across Paris...

Gentry de Paris

American in Paris, Gentry Lane, combines Stateside pazzaz (insirations include Hollywood pinup, Mamie van Doren) with good ol' Parisian luxury to produce a kind of US French fantasy made to the highest specifications is gorgeous pastels and black lace. Think Bas Lurhman's Moulin Rouge meets Le Moulin Rouge.
