New, bigger, crise/credit crunch extra-value Badaude goes twice a week! Every Friday I'll be posting a Paris review: shops, bars, hotels, street corners that are Paris. Photos not drawings (sorry). And real, up-to-date information on places you might like to go.
After all, Paris is so good, I have to share it...
Afaria
This Basque restaurant draws a smart crowd who find it well worth a metro ride and a long walk right down to the edge of the residential 15e arrondissement. Booking is essential, especially if you want to eat at the communal Tapas table to share a bite-sized menu over a glass of sherry or red wine from the Languedoc.
At the individual tables in the main room of the restaurant, the young chef, Julien Duboué who previously worked under chef Alain Dutournier at the Michelin 2 star restaurant Carré des Feuillants, has created a carte of set menus – though you can also mix and match between them. The flavours are Basque – pimento, jambon, tomato, sardines but each menu takes a different theme, catering for ‘Sudistes’ (fans of Southern French cooking); ‘Petites appetites’ (anyone on a diet) and or ‘Voyageurs’ (featuring exotic additions to the Basque remit including Aloe Vera). There’s also a romantic sharer’s menu for two. Don’t expect hearty traditional cooking (except, maybe on the traditonal 'noble ingredients' menu, heavy with foie gras). This is Basque with a modernist and minimalist twist. Flavours are exquisite and portions are a little on the delicate side.
The wine list is extensive and there's a bottle there for most budgets. Expect to pay from 18€ up. And to finish, why not try the rasberry Armagnac made with fresh fruit?
A two course lunch for 22 euro, three courses in the evening for 30-40 euro.
15, rue Desnouettes in the 15th, 01.48.56.15.36, closed Sunday and Monday lunch
Métro: Convention

Will definitely pay a visit next time I'm in a Paris!
